The Live Music Experience in Woodstock

The live music experience is part of what makes Woodstock such a special place to visit.  A crucial piece of this experience is having a place to stay in town that keeps the experience going for the entire trip.  With Ipod docks, record players, surround sound, drop down projection screens, and pandora radio on every TV each suite at The White Dove Rockotel is the perfect place to stay for a complete Woodstock live music experience. On February 10th The Chris Robinson Brotherhood will play the Bearsville Theater.  Both with the Brotherhood and with The Black Crowes Chris Robinson has played some amazing live shows in and around Woodstock. The Brotherhood play a mix of roots, psychedelic, and R&B with a modern rock sound making for a very powerful live performance.  Think Ten Years After, The Grateful Dead, and Otis Reading mixed together with a current group of musicians.

On March 1st Los Lobos is playing the legendary Levon Helm Studios.   Los Lobos is much more than "just another band from East LA" they have been a major influence on bands from Phish to Ozomatli.  They are celebrating their 40th anniversary this year and are still pushing the boundary's of what contemporary and live music can sound like much like the original Woodstock Festival did.

So get your tickets and book a suite at The White Dove Rockotel to have an amazing night of live music.  There really is no better way to feel the spirit of Woodstock then to see a live show in town.

Happy Birthday Bob Marley!

Happy Birthday to one of the worlds most important musicians ever.  Bob Marley brought reggae music to the world stage and spread the rastaman vibrations everywhere he went.  If you are a music fan than there is a pretty good chance you are a reggae fan.  Whether it is roots reggae, dance hall, dub step, or any other music that uses the unmistakable reggae beat. Celebrating Bob's birthday in Woodstock is the perfect way to remember a great musician in a great music town.  On Saturday Feb. 7th the Bearsville Theater with Upstate Reggae is throwing a Bob Marley birthday celebration "One Love" with a great line up of artists some of whom performed with Bob Marley and other reggae legends.  All the proceeds will go to the Bob Marley School in St. Ann Jamaica.

Upstate Reggae and the Woodstock area in general have great reggae shows all year round and there is no better place to enjoy the ire vibes before, after, and the next day than to stay at the The White Dove Rockotel.

There comes a time in every vacation when you just want to <<<<<<<RELAX>>>>>>>

What is it with us of the go, go, go generation and our obsession with "doing" things?

I mean, really, the Merriam-Webster dictionary defines vacation as

1

:  a respite or a time of respite from something
2
a :  a scheduled period during which activity  is suspended
And yet, here we are, in the Catskills, in a low stress, gorgeous environment and we have got ourselves on a sightseeing SCHEDULE. Hikes, farm to table restaurants, let's not forget to squeeze in an hour of mediation at a local monastery because HEY!!!! mind, body, spirit, ya know?
I got a better suggestion. How about just for one day with us you actually relax? Get up around 10. Enjoy some free coffee or tea. Take a soak or a sit in one of our amazing tubs or rainfall showers. Dry off with a 100% cotton spa towel, get into your most comfortable clothes and go out the courtyard, light up the fire pit and VEGGGGGGG.........
Then top it off with an ensuite massage or facial from local healer, master massage therapist (and amazing neighbor) Joan Apter.  The White Dove is now offering an Ensuite Services Menu !! This means you don't need to go anywhere (or get out of your jammies) to receive top-grade spa services. Just reach out to us at booking@thewhitedoverockotel.com  to ensure your time or stop by the Head Shop on site in the morning. All appointments are based on availability, so early bookings are recommended!

Gorgeous Woodstock Any Time of Year

Yesterday I took the toddler, the new-born, the dog, the cat and Hank, the pink Radio Flyer worm ride on toy for a walk down Orchard Lane and around the quiet neighborhood located behind The White Dove. Having moved up from Brooklyn little over a year ago and having lived in urban environments for 20 plus years prior to that, the silent beauty of the Catskills and small town charm of Woodstock make my heart sing. Yesterday, even though it was a bit overcast, I found the final colorful death throes of the leaves and foliage were particularly stunning. And then this morning I awoke to brilliant sunny blue skies, coupled with the first snow of the season. I hate to keep all this beauty to myself. Come up to the Catskills! Get out of the city. There's plenty to see and enjoy year round here in Woodstock and the Hudson Valley........even just a quiet in town walk can do your soul and body good.......

Our First Review!

In addition to hosting our website, we list our suites on Airbnb.com. Airbnb.com is a website dedicated to allowing regular folks to post holiday rental spaces. It's been around for about a decade but as a business has really picked up steam in the past couple years. There are hosts in every country offering accommodations in everything from tepees to old airplanes to luxury pent houses. It's really a fabulous way to travel. One of the great aspects of Airbnb is that both the hosts and guests can comment on their experience and leave reviews on the others profile. These reviews are posted for all to see and are un-editable. This allows for transparency and honesty. We would like to share our first review on The White Dove. Lois and her boyfriend stayed in our Garden Suite, the second weekend we were open. Lois, is also an Airbnb host and so has had many Airbnb experiences. Here is what she had to say

"Martin and Erin made our experience to the Fabulous new White Dove Rockotel one to remember! We loved all the attention to detail in the room. We loved being walking distance to the center of Woodstock. We had a car but we certainly did't need it. We played records, took a bath in the beautiful bathroom, called on our inner hippy, and relaxed. It was magical. In fact, Martin showed us all four units I'd like to book a stay in each one! Or rent all four with friends. Don't hesitate to book with this Groovy couple and enjoy Woodstock!"

We are nearing the end........

of renovations! AHHHHHH yes! For those of you not living in Woodstock I wanted to post some exterior shots of the hotel. It has made quite a splash around here. We even had someone drive into the guard rail while staring at it! Lots of people stop and photograph it, I can't wait to get the sign up. First a screen shot from google maps of what the property DID look like..... rockotel, theme hotel, The White Dove Woodstock

Still working on it but nearly done........

hotel Woodstock NY, theme hotel

A word about the color selection and the name. A few people have asked why the building is purple but the name is The White Dove. We named the hotel after the famous dove (actually a catbird) sitting on the guitar on the Woodstock '69 concert poster. Being that the hotel is themed on bands that played that concert. But we also like the fact that a white dove is a symbol of peace, a huge inspiration for the entire baby boom generation and the world. We believe in the possibility of a peaceful, more conscious world. And so comes in the color. As an artist I also believe in the impact of our environmental surrounding on our psyches and the power of symbolism and color.

The color purple is  associated with royalty, luxury, extravagance, creativity, and magic. For centuries and globally it has been seen as a sacred color, representing what is often unseen but felt in our world. The color purple affects both mind, body and spirit, creating alternating waves of calm and passion, igniting creativity and a sense of higher connection. Mediating on purple opens the third eye to the sacred and helps align oneself with the greater universe.

These are all things that happen when we listen to music as well, especially the type of intensely creative and psychedelic music that came out of the 1960's.

So the paint job is the physical representation of the music we built the hotel to honor. It ascends in color to nearly white because white is the color of peace, of clarity and illumination, all things we hope to achieve when we take a break from our daily grind and venture out to explore the wider world.

So welcome to The White Dove, we hope your stay with us brings you a feeling of luxury, bursts of creativity, waves of passion and a restful easy feeling.

Peace ★♥☮

Custom Wallpapers

One of the specialized design features we wanted to have here at The White Dove was customization. We felt it was important for our guests to experience an environment they wouldn't be able to find anywhere else. In order to pay homage to the individualization and innovation of the of late 60's, the timeless creativity that flowed from the souls of the musicians, the design plan incorporated reworked vintage, hard to find and limited edition artwork, custom upholstery and hand designed wallpaper. This is not your grandmothers wall paper! Wallpaper design is experiencing a revival. Companies such as Brooklyn's Flavor Paper started the trend about a decade ago, employing hand done screen printing methods and hiring street artists and hip graphic designers to come up with outstanding creative designs. In recent years digital printing technologies have made it possible for anyone to print images on a variety of substrates and surfaces, creating a new world of affordable customization for artists and designers. One of the first online accessible companies to target individuals interested in custom textile printing, Spoonflower, added wallpaper printing to it product offerings a little over a year ago.

Originally we were looking at a possible licensing collaboration with Flavor Paper on the series. In the end our designs are very specific the musical influences they represent. We decided to keep them exclusive to The White Dove and have them printed with Spoonflower. There are four designs, one for each suite.

The Garden Suite takes it's inspiration from the famous song written by Joni Mitchell and preformed by Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young at the Woodstock concert. It's wallpaper reminds one of blotter art. The illustration style is inspired by 1960's textile artist and animator, Malcom English. The scenes are images inspired by the lyrics, pictures of actual concert attendees and the final words said from the stage.

Heart is based on the musical styling of Janis Joplin. Her wallpaper incorporates images relating to both her music and personal style. Song birds, pearls, peacocks, album cover art and whiskey bottles.

The Experience Suite is a nod to Jimi Hendrix. The wallpaper design is based on a classic repeat pattern called damask. Damask is a an opulent style that calls to mind the flamboyant clothing Jimi wore. The individual motifs show the flying eyeball as Jimi, famously related from Rick Griffin's Fillmore poster.

Woodstock Times

148 Tinker Street is not just any old fixer-upperby Nick Henderson on Apr 4, 2014 • 6:30 am

A ramshackle Victorian home is going to get a new lease on life from a couple who plan to turn it into luxury vacation suites that won’t empty your wallet.

It’s been overgrown for so long that Woodstockers may have driven past it thousands of times without realizing it’s there, but Erin Cadigan and Martin Mills, who moved from Brooklyn about a year ago, saw some promise in the place.

The home has a detached cottage, which, “if anything is in worse condition than the house,” Cadigan said. “But it’s really solid. It’s got solid bones.”
