We have been blessed to attract some very talented guests to The White Dove Rockotel. Back in October a couple came to stay with us. Their reservation caught our attention because although they were staying for two nights, they asked to change rooms mid-stay. They booked our Experience Suite the first night, our Heart Suite the second. Enthusiastically we were told because of the extremely different design environments of each of our suites they had been unable to pick just one!
So who was this couple? It turns out the couple is Philadelphia-based creative power house Genessa and Ryan. Working under the moniker Her&Eye this duo specialize in personal portfolio and brand representation with a creative style in conceptual photo imagery. We are honored to say that they chose our hotel as the backdrop for the first installment of a highly personal project. You see Genessa and Ryan aren’t merely creative business partners but they are also newly husband and wife. Each year of their marriage they plan to take a trip and do a photo shoot to commemorate themselves and their love. The White Dove Rockotel was chosen for their first wedding anniversary! They’ve agreed to tell us a bit more about themselves, their project and their choice of The White Dove…
TWD: What is it about Woodstock and The Catskills that inspired your trip?
Genessa: Your hotel was actually the inspiration to visit The Catskills for our first anniversary!
TWD: What was it about our hotel that inspired you to stay with us?
Genessa: Everything about your hotel inspired us. It immediately spoke to us on a creative level, something out of the norm. We were looking for a place packed with one of a kind style. When we came across The White Dove Rockotel there was no question it would be the perfect place to create something magical together.
TWD: How did you two meet?
Originally we met through a mutual friend on Myspace. Ryan was willing to stay on Myspace forever (ha,ha) but I convinced him to join the jump to Facebook. We kept in touch through social media. In 2010 I received an odd message from Ryan stating he had lost his phone and would I resend my number. The odd part was I had never sent him my number. This message had me jumping for joy. At the time I lived in Arizona and Ryan was in West Chester PA, a phone request was taking things to the next level! Soon we were texting, and over the year texting turned into phone calls, which turned into Skype (video chatting). Eventually we were Skype-ing everyday, skipping weekend plans to Skype each other and when we fell asleep mid-Skype only to wake up to each others smiling faces, it was time to meet in real life. April of 2011 I came to visit Ryan in Pennsylvania. The trip was everything we'd hoped for. By that August, I had narrowed down my belongings to one suitcase, bought a one-way ticket and moved 2900 miles away from everything I knew. I was terrified but three years later, we were married and looking excitedly into the future together.
TWD: Any thoughts on where your ultimate future anniversary shoot would be?
Genessa: Ultimate Anniversary trip?? We haven't really thought too much about that actually. I think as long as we are traveling, exploring and creating together every anniversary trip will be the ultimate one.
(Editors note: Genessa seemed to find the whole Myspace / social media start to their marriage quite funny, and I’d say it’s pretty ironic since these two still seem to be crushing social media with a combined 93.8K followers on Instagram alone!)
Tonight at the Bearsville Theater enjoy a local treasure, our talented rock stars on the rise, Paul Green Rock Academy's Best of Season show.
The Paul Green Rock Academy is a performance based, interactive music school, based on a method honed over the past 17 years. They believe that the best way to teach most anything, and especially music, is with a hands on approach. Therefore, the entire school is dedicated to getting kids playing music in an as authentic way as possible.
The Rock Academy's teachers are all real working rock musicians, and as such are able to relate to the students in a very direct way, offering valuable advice and guidance in the field. The shows they stage are not just recitals for family and friends but rather aspire to be real rock shows at real rock venues, with professional sound and, when appropriate, smoke machines
TheBest of Season showcases the highlight hits from the past season. Tonight's performance will include this summers favorites from:
Additionally Best of Season show is a fund raiser offering scholarship to talented students that may need some tuition help. Every dollar raised viaBEST OF SEASON shows and accompanying auction and raffle goes towards The Paul Green Rock Academy scholarship program, giving deserving kids the gift of rock. A full one-third of PGRA's students are on partial- or full scholarship; support for the BEST OF SEASON show goes directly towards their tuition, lessons and show expenses and allows the school to fund existing students as well as new applicants.
Here atThe White Dove Rockotelwe are huge fans of Paul Green's concept. We have gone to several of the concerts they have presented from Utopia Sound Stage to Levon's Barn to local festivals. It's always an impressive and rocking time. Because we believe in what they do we have donated a nights stay to tonight's raffle. We encourage you to go enjoy the show and bid on some of the excellent donations and prizes.

In February of 2015 a lovely blonde singer song writer arrived with her guitar and stayed for a few days in our Bohemian Rhapsody suite at the Art Annex. She was friendly and quiet and apparently hard at work. During her brief stay, Kathy has told us that she found the suite so inspiring and comforting that a new song just flowed out of her. That song is Born By The Water, whose official video went live today on the world wide web. Here is Kathy in her own words:
"January, snow, writer's retreat, cabin, Woodstock, water, loons" pretty much sums up the setting that made Born By the Water so easy to write."
Kathy has been back several times to stay as well to film in the Bohemian Rhapsody. We officially consider her part of our Rockotel Family. Check out this "unplugged" video version of Born By The Water she shot exclusively for The White Dove Rockotel while filming the official video.
With a distinctive voice and lyrical style that combines a blend of acoustic and pop influences infused with a hint of bluesy jazz, Kathy brings a unique spectrum of songs to the stage. The music is as unconstrained by artistic boundaries as the woman herself. Although a songwriter for many years, her first taste of a recording studio was only three years ago when she moved from her native Scotland to Connecticut. She recorded Sweet & Easy, a homage to naturalist John Muir and artists from a bygone era. When she heard the final recording she no longer needed convincing she could sing. Since then Kathy has recorded two albums, four singles and one EP. Her style is woven with different hues and colours yet all are part of the same tapestry. Kathy knows what she likes and what suits her voice. Her vocal and lyrical style remains singular and instantly identifiable: an expressive range that is soft and intimate, yet sassy and upbeat with a natural, unforced delivery that captures the imagination.
'Her visual sense, a key element in much of her songwriting, likewise finds expression in her photography, but her muse never stops moving. Her deeply collaborative creative spirit has a proactive slant and much of her efforts are connected with others looking to embody the change in our world that they seek. Kathy succinctly describes her vision for living saying that, while her “… pursuits may sound random, even disparate, they can be summed up with three words: Art, Nature, Creativity'

LYRICS I was born by the water, where the sun kissed the land In a hazy, easy summer where the breeze held my mother's hand I was raised by the water, throwing stones into the pools Laid me down in the tall grass and listened to the loons
Fall of night I can see reflections glowing Silhouetted treeline shaping the sky while I lie by
The water Raised by the water I feel alive by the water
I want to live by the water, take each day as it comes Be my one and only maker, learn the teachings of the sun
Fall of night I can see reflections glowing Silhouetted treeline shaping the sky while I lie by
The water Raised by the water I feel alive by the water
One day I'll die by the water, let her wash over me And all my sins will be forgiven and my bones in reverie
The water Raised by the water I feel alive by the water

About a 45 minute drive north will take you to the town of Hudson with all its nineteenth century industrial charm. John Doe Records and Books has an eclectic mix of vintage vinyl and is worth the drive from Woodstock.

There comes a time in every vacation when you just want to <<<<<<<RELAX>>>>>>>
What is it with us of the go, go, go generation and our obsession with "doing" things?
I mean, really, the Merriam-Webster dictionary defines vacation as
So you're coming to The Catskills. Fresh air, sunshine, hikes, mountains.
The Great Outdoors!
You know who would like this vacation even better then you? The dog. But it's so hard to find lodging that welcomes your furry friend. Well lucky for you we LOVE dogs here at The White Dove Rockotel. As dog owners ourselves, we have traveled extensively with our pooches. Martin owns a pit bull, Varuca and I had a crazy 65 pound mutt named Bearly Behavin'. Bearly went everywhere with me for the 17 years she was alive. Country cabins, 4 star urban hotels, didn't matter, if I couldn't bring my dog, I wasn't staying. We believe if you are traveling with your animal(s) then they are well behaved and you are a responsible owner. As such we have no size restrictions, you can leave your dog unattended in the room (unless there's a noise complaint) and we don't charge a deposit per animal or per night, there is just a one-time low pet cleaning fee of $35.
We have two pet friendly units available. The Station Suite which boasts an open floor plan and full kitchen in a 400 sq foot cottage. The Station Suite is located on the courtyard of The White Dove with direct access to our fire pit and patio seating. The other pet friendly unit available is located at our annex property a half block down Orchard Lane from The White Dove. The Rocket Room is a 300 sq ft studio with kitchenette (minifridge, toaster oven, coffee station, sink) decorated in a kitschy mid-century modern style.
If both our pet friendly units are unavailable, we have a solution!
Pike Lane Dogs is a low cost boarding and/or walking service located a few properties (literally less then a minute walk) away from The White Dove. Just let us know you will be dropping your pet with them and we will give a call to confirm. In addition to boarding, Peter and Andy work with well-known Woodstock resident Brett. Brett has a full time gig at Sunflower co-op and live across the street from The White Dove. He is available to stop by our rooms for feedings, walks or cuddles for our guests who are visiting with dogs but need to be out for extended periods. Brett can be reached at 845-679-2219. Please be assured this is a highly recommended service providing respectful, comfortable and affordable accommodations for your pet.
Please give Peter and Andy a call at 845-588-0231 to book your pooch's vacation today!
